What is prepping and what is a ferrule

Can someone tell me what this means??? I'm looking at a shaft on ebay and it says "Tips may need prepping and ferrules may need replacing" The shaft is 42.5 inches... I player a driver length of 43 inches including the head... is this long enough for me? What is the shortest shaft I can get and still keep a driver of 43 inches?

When you put a shaft into a clubhead the tip needs to have any paint or debris removed so that that epoxy will properly hold it. This is called "prepping".

The ferrule is the black plastic ring at the bottom of the shaft where it meets the hosel. It actually slides over the shaft.

The shaft length you need depends on the bore depth of the head.

The cost on a ferrule is less than 25 cents.

I'm not sure what Golftown charges for a shaft pull / install but any clubmaker can do it.

wicked, I called the place in ottawa and the guy was there... but in toronto he went home. Anyway, prepping is free, ferule is free, just the shaft pull which is $7 bucks. He said only an inch of the shaft is used so I'm guessing a 42.5 inch shaft is the lowest I could go. The shaft I'm getting is .335 and the driver head is .35 so he said they have a plug for that as well. I didn't talk to long with him but before I purchase the shaft does anyone have a reason why this wouldn't work? Or a reason it shouldn't be done? or attempted?

No reason not to do it. Lot's of people put .335 shafts into .350 hosels.
