Can someone tell me what these numbers mean?
and how the effect the ball flight or swing.
WEIGHT-PTS---BUTT FLEX--MID FLEX--TIP FLEX
81g-----4.0"----277---------7.9----------29
82g-----4.0"----277---------7.9----------30
76g-----4.0"----267---------7------------28
77g-----4.0"----267---------7------------28
65g-----4.0"----270---------7.9----------24
66g-----4.0"----270---------7.9----------25
The only one that makes sense to me is weight, but what would be the difference between a 55g shaft and a 75g shaft? other than the fact that one is heavier? what would you notice once you hit the ball with it? Same question for for PTS, butt flex, mix flex, tip flexLast edited by "Richard"; 04-20-2006 at 06:44 PM.

PTS means Parallel Tip Section. Basically it's telling you how much you can tip trim (don't forget to subtract hosel depth) before the shaft begins to taper outward. So if you have a bore thru driver like a Titleist, which has a hosel depth of about 2.75", you can only trim about an inch from the tip if you want the shaft to fit to the bottom of the bore.
"Butt flex" (kind of reminds me of Hans and Franz...) is another way of saying frequency or butt stiffness. Here the 65 & 66g shafts will feel a little firmer under the grip than the 77 & 76, but softer than the 81 & 82.
I'm not sure what method is used here to get the mid flex and tip flex, but the numbers would lead me to believe that the mid-weight shafts play stiffer in the mid-section, and the tips play progressively stiffer the lighter the shaft is.When applying the Rules, you follow them line by line. You don't read between them.

so how does each of these effect the play of the shaft? How do you decide which one to get? I was simply told to get a firm tip, stiff flex, mid kick heavier shaft
PS thanks

The 81g shaft would best fit that description, IMO.

the 81g shaft as 3.3 tourque and the 76 has 2.2, will that make much of a diff at 105mph? I was told to get low torque as well
