    Long Drive.....

Last year the thread on distance was very popular...I thought i would start at it early and bring it back to the lime light...what would you do for distance....To not only be able to reach the par 5's but reach it with a short iron. To putt for eagle on the short par 4's. Distance ...the World Finals are on this week (oct 19th) and Sean Fister is the Defending champ and Jason Zuback has already made it through to the quarter finals...a 4 time champ..Pinnacle had a challenge on all season..and the 12 winners went head to head with John Daly last nite...you see guys automatically assume the touring pro's are the longest..well last nite 9 out of 12 amateurs beat Big John Daly to share the million dollar price.....
If all the guys who hit it big were going to meet at the range and put on a show...would you come to hit it with us...

Well to me they are (for the most part) just trick shot artists.....

No, that's not fair, it is a skill. They are ONE-SHOT-ARTISTS

They might be +150 farther down the fairway but most of us will be in the hole first!! Therefore they are not golfers.

But I will sit & watch the whole show.........

Actually, in the context of this thread I would answer - No, it does not equal 1/4 of par.

On a typical 18-hole course, 5 holes are par 3s plus at least 2 holes are short/dogleg par 4s where a long drive would put you out of the fairway. Therefore, for a scratch golfer an extremely long drive would only be useful on about 11 out of 72 shots, or about 1/6 of par. For the vast majority of golfers who have a handicap > 0, the percentages are much less.

Typical 18 hole has 4 par 3s. Anything more than that and I consider it an Executive course.

Question A 6,000+ yard Executive course???

C'mon, em69. Of the 41 featured courses on this site that are 18-hole tracks, 17 of them (41%) have 5 or more par 3s. All but 3 of these are over 6,000 yards from the tips. I would certainly not consider Casselview, Cloverdale, Champlain, Heritage, Manderley, The Marshes, Nation or Stonebridge as "executive courses.

    Par 3 & 5's

I actually enjoy courses that have five-par 3's & five-par 5's (still par 72). The more variables the better. I certainly don't consider them executive courses.

I hope I don't need to get an accounting degree to be part of this forum

If you want a challange, and you are up at Tremblant, try out Manitou. Par 58, 14 par threes and four par fours. Good iron practice as a lot of the holes are carries over water, e.g. Hole #8 125 yards and all carry - http://www3.sympatico.ca/guy.ouimet/h08_e.htm

But more to the point. The Marshes has 6 par 3s and it's not very executive like.
It could be that the purpose of your life is only to serve as a warning to others.
