Pick the course time!!!
Ok guys/girls, after much deliberation with my co-organizers we have settled on three courses for our forum golfing day. Now to prevent many nominees from being submitted we have narrowed the field to three. All good courses in their respective manners. So seeing that we have to get this thing rolling asap I will put a time frame of two weeks on this. Who ever has the most votes will be our choice and we will start planning.
BTW, we have also decided to have just a fun day. There will be sleeves of balls available for closet to the pin on par 3s. That will be about it in the way of prizes. We want this to be a "come out and meet the members" type of day. We don't any of the shenanigans that are sometimes associated with tourneys that offer big prizes. And we really don't have the time to go around and hunt down prizes anyways.
Also, we aren't going to ask the course to provide a meal. Each individual golfer can order their own food after the round. That way you get what you want to eat and spend as much as you want as well.
So let's get started. Here's your choices:

Can't until we know a course. I don't want to call three courses and hold three days on them. I would rather know which course first and then go from there.

I figured someone might try that. I don't want the vote skewered.

I was thinking the ol' "Draw names for the hat" method. The idea here is to get out and meet some new members. Not put together your normal foursome. But that will be decided later.

I think a random draw would be a good way to do it. I for one haven't really met anyone on the site, and a draw make sure that people got to golf with people they wouldn't necessarily golf with otherwise. That said, doesn't really matter how its picked, as I'm sure everyone will have a blast regardless.

Exactly Jon. That's why I don't want to have a tourney format. That way it doesn't matter who you golf with, a scratch or a 30 capper. Just out there to have fun.

Are new members allowed to show up? Sounds like fun.
I think the random draw idea is best.

pick a day
Any new member on the board is more than welcomed to attend. The purpose of this is to get as many OG nuts together for a fun game of the sport we love so much. We will be taking names of who will be present later so just remember to sign up for it when we ask. I hope to see as many OGer as possible out there and finally see some of those club Ho's that have so many clubs.

Shouldn't matter how good people are; scratch golfers know they are good golfers and they should be coming out to meet people and share in some laughs not have the most intense game of there life

Geoff, just my two cents, but maybe you should post a poll like this - "Which one of these courses, if any, would you NOT play?" I'll play any one of them, but you never know if one is too far for certain folks.

donny, we discussed that. We came to the conclusion that giving too many options would create too much of a headache. The three of us submitted a list of four courses we would like to play, and these three came up on at least two of the three lists. That was our criteria.
We also figured that for a one time thing people would probably be more inclined to drive a little furhter for a large gathering. The only course out of the three that is really out of the way is EL, and even then its still only about 20-30mins south of Ottawa.
But we'll see what course is choosen. Seems like a pretty close choice right now."A life lived in fear of the new and the untried is not a life lived to its fullest." M.Pare 10/09/08

The greens are nasty. Do you have MS Links 2003 by any chance?

Cov, I had never played it till last year. many people were saying it was tough, the greens were lightning fast, it was brutal. Played the 2 best rounds of the year there. I normally play between 80 and 88, my 2 games there were 77 and 79. I enjoyed both rounds and yesm there are some tough holes but if you practice good course management, it is fine (ie. don't pull out the driver on every hole!)Proud member of the 2009 OG/TGN Ryder Cup Champions

Is it brutal hard?I have never played it,but i voted for it.
personally, I don't have a problem w/ the course especially since I have a good control of my long irons, and use them off the tee more often than not.
my lowest rounds have NOT been @ stone bridge ... but alot of average ones have been made. (and the occasional slaughter )
I find a lot of their pins are cut in a shallow area of the green, so it is hard to attack the pins as their firm greens lead to bouncing into collection areas ... and if you don't attack, enjoy the roller coaster ride to the cup from anywhere outside 20 feet
LOVE the layout, and conditioning ... if we play here I will be happy.
p.s. I've enver played Emerald Links (somehow never got around to it) ... wouldn't mind giving it a try for the forum day been meaning to get out there
p.p.s. the 2nd hole @ stonebridge when there's a heavy wind is a pain in the ***** ... wow that can set you off to a bad start lolNCGT Ryder Cup Team Green (06,07,08)
