The Ball of the Future...Today
Good news. No more lost balls. A company called Radar Golf has intruduced a ball that is embedded with a RF microchip that uses proprietary BPS (ball positioning system) technology. The 2-piece, low compression ball conforms to USGA weight, size, and velocity standards. Selling price is $40 USD/dozen.
Bad news. The Radar Golf RF handheld detection system and software required for finding these golf balls costs $350 USD.
Do you think it's practical to spend $350 to find a $3 golf ball? When applying the Rules, you follow them line by line. You don't read between them.

I agree, somewhat of a "target group" item. Not for any Joe Blow.

it all depends how you lose most of your balls. If most of the balls you lose are in the bush, then that $350 will pay for it self in about a year, $350 is the cost of about 8 dozen balls.
On the other hand, if you lose most of your balls into lakes/rivers it doesnt' matter if you can locate it or not, you aint getting it!! So i guess it all depends on where the majority of your golf balls are lost.

I have lost balls on the fairway!!!!!!!! (Late evening rounds)
It would have been useful to find my ball, but what is a couple of strokes worth.
Maybe Tiger would like one for when he plays in england.Back at it.

Even if you never lose your ball, how long would you play it?

good point dan
i think this would sell well if the searcher doubled as a gps system some golf software on it....then the bill for the locator makes a little more sense considering how cheap rthe balls are i tihnk ppl would give it a try.NCGT Ryder Cup Team Green (06,07,08)

it had better have some fins to swim out of the lake, and some legs to run out of forest when its just too deep for humans to follow.

I will have to say that I did play a ProV for two rounds last year. And a couple holes with some tester balls. But, nothing replaced my HX Blue for distance, control and durability....until they took the bloody things off the market for 06! Cripes!
But, from what I hear about the new "dot" series from Callaway, it's gonna make believers out of naysayers this year.....HX.56 and HX.Tour....
