    Best Restaurant In Ottawa

Just wanted to get some opinions on what everyone thinks is the city's best restaurant.

I'm looking for a place that has a chefs 5 or 7 course selection on the menu. Would go to Beckta but can't get a reservation for Saturday.
    Any suggestions?

I love the Outback but looks like you want somethig fancy.. I would highly reccomend Hy's on Queen st. For steak.. maybe Fertelli's in Kanata for Italian..

    Nope, already had that meal.
Wife's bday meal & we usually do dinner at a decent restaurant. Did Perspectives last time & Hy's the time before.
Never been to Le Jardin or Fertelli's - are they nice?

If you are not averse to wearing a jacket and spending a bunch, I'll suggest Signatures, it's the restaurant attached to the Cordon Blue Cooking school.

For less formal dining, I will second the recommendations for Le Jardin, although it's been a while since I was there last.

    Other recommendations:
    Vittoria Trattoria in the market.
    Les Fougeres in Chelsea.
Not fat anymore. Need to get better at golf now!

Try le Sans Pareil in Hull on St Joseph just west of the Casino. IMHO it is better than Beckta and half the price. They have a "chef surprise" table d'hote that with 3 3oz glasses of wine is $65 (if memory serves).

My wife used to be the pastry chef there. It is top notch, but not pretentious. Last time I ate there I sat next to Oscar Peterson, who is a close friend of the owner and chef.
You may run into the same problem as at Beckta for a Saturday res, though.

The final decision is Les Fougeres - I've never been there so I'm looking forward to it.
I got more/better information from this post than I did in 45 minutes of searching the internet for Ottawa restaurant reviews. Thanks for your input everyone.

Cabatto's on Hazeldean out past Haime's place. Excellent Italian food and service.

Oggi in Manotick Station is a wonderful Italian place too. Really intimate.

The restaurant at the Brookstreet hotel is excellent.

Biagio on Richmond. (hey, I'm noticing an Italian trend...hmmmmm...)

Azteca in the market. Superb traditional mexican.

    Empire Grill, in the market.

Mama Grazzi's, also in the market.

    Fiamma in Barrhaven.

    Fratelli, downtown or Kanata.

    Von's Bistro on Bank St.

Not quite the fancy place but went to the Keg Manor last week and it was great. Highly recommend it.

Fat Tuesday is my recommendation! The food there is unreal. And if you go on the weekend, you get dueling pianos for entertainment.

Wish i would have seen this before, I would definetly suggest Fridays on Elgin right across from the NAC. Its a great restuarant and there is a piano bar upstairs as well. The restaurant is an old mansion, and in my opinion, the best prime rib in the city!!

Considering the meal and that you get a full course meal i think it was 4 or 5 courses, it cost under $90 for my girlfriend and I including wine and a beer. I didn't think it was too highly priced

It's not overly expensive. Decent food, but I can't help but feeling i'm the youngest one in the restaurant as it tends to cater to the older bus tour crowd.

let's put it this way, my father in law is English and nothing says dinner to him like Roast Beef and Yorkshire Pudding in an old Victorian style Parlour.

You dont put gravy on roast beef?

A little off topic here but,if anyone is ever in Montreal looking for breakfast,
go to Cosmos on the corner of Sherbrooke/Decarie
Once you go in,you might not even want to sit down. The place is a hole in the ground!
But!the food is awsome if your into the major arterry clogging breakfast!
    Very famous place in Montreal.

For Montreal Smoked Meat, it's Ben's or Schwartz's in Montreal. Everything else is 2nd place.
