My goals:
1) Make the Intersectional team
2) Finish in the top 5 for the Club Championship
3) Repeat or better my performance in the Match Play (lost in semis)
4) Shoot under par for one round, shot par once last year with a double on the 18th
5) Get the cap to 5 or under

Hmmm, that is going to be hard. I'm not that good yet but its strange because I shoot really well on about 10 holes.. if I take my 10 best holes I will usually be at par, but its the other 8 holes that I will double, triple and quad boogie but since I started the year shooting a few really low rounds, my handicap meant I could only take two over on each hole but slowly its been going up and leveled off around 14.
What is a good goal to set for handicap then?

As your handicap gets lower, the variance in your scores is less and less. This makes the changes in your handicap less dramatic, unless you shoot a really low round, which seems to make your handicap drop a lot faster than it does when it starts to increase, lol!It could be that the purpose of your life is only to serve as a warning to others.

I have done this every year that I have been playing.
Here are my goals for 2006:
1) Get more consistency in distance
2) Be able to hit all shots straight
3) Track partial shot distance and spread for 7i to 60° wedge
4) Break 80
5) Learn to keep the drives low to get the added length (300 yds)
6) Learn, learn, learnBack at it.

I'm always nervous about these threads, because they create self-induced pressure to perform and spawn expectations that can be unrealistic. But I'll give it a shot.
The long answer:
Play better golf more often.
The short answer (IOW):
consistency
The long-winded, gratuitous explanation (totally optional reading, written mostly for my own benefit so I can check back in the fall and verify that very little has changed):
1) Sometimes I get mistaken for a real golfer, because occasionally I have a technically-sound and good-looking swing (or so I've been told), and I can hit some beautiful, solid golf shots. Its probably a combination of a lot of luck and a little skill, but it feels good while it lasts.
'Cuz there are many, many times where I play like a total hack. Chopping down trees off the tee, re-tilling the soil with my irons, and my personal speciality - making people dance to avoid skulled wedge shots. You would be well advised to wear your hockey equipment when you're playing with me on these days! Its like I never saw a golf club before, and sometimes it gets so bad I can barely fit all the numbers on the scorecard! A Jekyll-and-Hyde thing. So Goal #1 - hire a hit man to assasinate Mr Hyde.
2) For some reason there are some things that I do fairly well that many golfers find difficult, like hitting and sticking a pin with a fairway wood or dropping a flop shot within 2 feet to a short-sided pin. Then there are other supposedly-simple things that I totally suck at - like hitting a green with a wedge from 100 yards or getting a simple chip to land anywhere close to my target. So Goal #2 - learn how to do some of the simple things well.
3) I like trying new equipment, but I've come to realize that its a distraction. Yes, I have found new stuff that I hit better than my old stuff - but it really hasn't made a big difference in my scores one way or the other. I've got some sticks I'm fairly comfortable with, so Goal #3 - my bag is really set.
4) Finally, I try really hard to improve my golf game. Sometimes too hard. I care so much about making quality shots and having a decent score, that I can only have fun when Dr Jekyll is playing. So Goal #4 - don't give a #$@* when Mr Hyde shows up, perhaps he'll get bored and go for a nap.Golf is a game invented by the same people who think music comes out of bagpipes.

Yes, if you were to play super hard courses, ones with high ratings and slope, had rounds in the low 80's and one under 80 you would probably be close to a single digit handicap. That said, someone who is a 14 handicap, and aiming to shoot a single round under 80, it would be highly unlikely for that handicap to move into single digits. It could be that the purpose of your life is only to serve as a warning to others.

As for my goals, I'm not sure I have very many.
First of all, I want to just go out and have fun. Keep the stress away, and just enjoy being able to get out there and play.
I would like to defend the men's double match play title at the club, play on the Interclub team (not intersectionals) again, keep my index below 10, and beat Steve more times than he beats meIt could be that the purpose of your life is only to serve as a warning to others.

I usually do not set "Goals" for the season. When you do that you put undue pressure on yourself every time you walk to the first tee.
I plan on playing 150+ rounds this year. No pressure there, that will be a piece of cake to meet that one.
I plan on having fun on the course. I do that every year. Constant grinding during every round is not much fun. Years ago I wanted to hammer everyone I played with, beat them by as many strokes as I could. I found I was not having fun on the course. Now I just go out and play. If I have a great round, that is good. If I have a bad round I don't worry about it. It is a game afterall. Life goes on whether you shoot 73 or 83.
If I had to set a couple of goals:
1. Drive the ball straighter
2. Lower my index from 7 to 5 or 4
3. Always have a cold beer after every round
The first two will require work, the last one is easy!
All I can say to everyone is tee it up as often as you can, play as well as you can. Enjoy the day, enjoy the sunshine, enjoy the people you are walking down the fairways with. Meet and make new friends on the course. I find golf friendships last a lifetime. My opinions are my own, I do not follow others.

1. Play a lot of different courses after 10 years of the same course
2. Meet and play with some of the inmates of OG
3. Avoid being beaten by my wife (at golf)
4. Not to pay much attention to my scores
5. Relax and enjoy the scenery
6. Keep the same clubs as last year in my bag!
7. Find a regular 'golf night' for a '9 N dine' type thingy but NOT COMPETITIVEProud member of the 2009 OG/TGN Ryder Cup Champions

1. Break 80 for the second time and then hopefully a few more times.
2. Narrow down the variety of scores I get - competitively I shot between 84 and 110 on the Slammer Tour last year. Out of 40 rounds, 10 were over 100 and 9 were 90 and under. The other 21 were 91-99. My leisure rounds at my home course basically ranged between 79 and 95 (with one 99 in there for good measure at the beginning of the 2005 season.)
3. Continue getting my GIR % up. It went up to 26% at the end of the year. It's so easy to score well when you're on in regulation! I'd like to see if I can hit 40% this year.
4. Play as much as possible, and not to wuss out so early (I quit on Nov. 13 because I grew tired of playing on soggy and cold courses.) Now I want to play on soggy and cold courses today!

Improve GIR
Simple plan ... hit the green after driving the ball in the middle of the fairway.
