Question Poplar Grove or The Meadows... comments?

I am trying to decide between playing The Meadows or Poplar Grove this Friday.... anyone have any comments about what condition these 2 courses are in or which one I might enjoy more?

Our group of 4 has slightly different skill levels but overall we aren't that good. So I'd like a course that won't frustrate the worse of the 4 but that will still challenge the best.

The Meadows looks to have a LOT of hazrds from the pictures I've seen... On the other hand I'm a little worried about Poplar Grove's course condition as I've heard it can be slighlty on the bad side, especially this late into the season.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Even if you have suggestions for other courses under $35 that we could try.... I'd prefer them to be in the East or near Gloucester though. I was hoping to play Metcalfe but there is a tournament that day.

Poplar Grove has some horrible fairways, they are very dry and not much grass. You can hit your drives pretty far though.
Their greens are in very good shape. The roll very well.

The Meadows is usually in pretty good shape. Some 9's are easier than others there. It just depends which 18v you play.

    Both are good

I've played both this year, and they are both good. Either one would be a good choice for you.

Poplar Grove USED to have poor, dry fairways but they have improved considerably this year. The course is in better shape that many others I have played that cost a lot more. The course has fewer hazards than The Meadows, but the fairways are narrower. A good course for beginners.

The Meadows is in excellent condition - one of the best-conditioned courses around. A tougher course than Poplar Grove, but the conditions are better and it costs a little more. It also tends to be busier.

I would pick The Meadows over Poplar Grove for quality, but I wouldn't hesitate to play PG if they had a better tee time open.

Or better yet, head a little farther south and play Cloverdale Links. Best value around, period.
