Scotty Cameron putters
What is all the fuss with Scotty Cameron putters? Are they that good? What’s the big diff?
Just wondering cause every other brand name sells used for cheap $$ but Scotty putters are always very expensive.
Paying 4 brand name and popularity or 4 quality?

Good, sure.
But any milled putter by a decent manufcturer will be good too.
I have a Kirk Currie milled putter made about 5 years ago when he was with precept. It is amazing. It is made out of copper, not steel makin git heavier and has a floating face like the Newport Beach.
Kevin Burns, Kirk Currie, Robert Bettinardi, etc. All these guys make solid putters out of top notch materials and with a tight manufacturing tolerance.
But you know, confidence is everything in putting. If having the Scotty in your hands gives you the confidence, then it is completely worth it.

IMO, I think it's all name and clever marketing. Hell, some of the older ones are going for a grand on ebay right now. No disrespect to anyone out there, but I think it's a status thing too, like driving a BMW.

#1 putter on the tour = #1 in price. That simple. I have a couple putters I wouldn't trade for any Cameron, so to me, they are overpriced.

Anyone ever tried a Daito putter? They are made in Montreal (All their putters are milled and have winn grips).
I tried both virtuoso models at the Golf show in Hull and must say that I was quite surprised (I think they sell for less than scotties too!)

Good looking putters, but still a ridiculous price at $200. I don't care if it's a club you use 30 times a round, that's too much for a putter. I bet the average golfer wouldn't be able to tell the difference between a $50 clone model and the top of the line Scotty on the course.

Some proof that it's a status thing - A Scotty Cameron putter COVER (A COVER!!!) is going for $70 on Ebay.

I find there's a difference in a quality putter vs. some clones and some not so great putters...
I do like scotties, but that's not all I carry. I also carry a few Pings that I've liked, and have been playing around w/ the Yes! putters aswell. If I am in GT or somehwere like that trying putters, I try 10 or 12 at a time, finding which ones feel the best...regardless of brand.
It all comes down to feel, and if you can't feel the difference or prefer the feel of a 30$ putter then that's awsome, but if you find a 300$ that you love the feel of it then it sucks that you had to pay the price, but you can't walk away from something that feels right (at least I can't lol)
Scotties are expensive, even more expensive than your average Bettinardi (not that they are cheap either)...It is good advertising, clever market (limited releases etc), but it's not like you are losing $$ buying one of them. Unlike most clubs they don't lose a lot of value, and many appreciate in value over time as they double as collector's items.NCGT Ryder Cup Team Green (06,07,08)

p.s. I was linked to a scotty ball marker on ebay once that had sold for 200$ US LOL now that's insane.NCGT Ryder Cup Team Green (06,07,08)

Well I own probably the most unsuccesful SC putter and I think it has an awsome feel! I can feel where I hit the ball on the face and I find that I get a better sense of distance because of the feedback. Now with that being said, I haven't played outside yet just practise on my putting mat in the basement. Spring my prove me wrong! I would never spend the big bucks on one, mine cost me $125 and it's in great shape. I have another one on the way which I traded a Ping putter for, so I haven't invested the big bucks like some guys but I don't have the realy rare putters either. I think the scotty craze is getting bigger because golf is growing into a huge following that seems to get people addicted very quickly. Guys want to be involved in golf andd that's where club ho'ing and collecting come from. Scotty makes awsome putters, he also has a huge PGA Tour following, he has a limited release. This makes them more attractive to collectors. People are willing to pay a lot to collect clubs and golfers seem to have a lot of cash to be spent of clubs. Supply and demand, low supply, high demand, high prices.

I own a Scotty Studio Style Newport and i'm in love with it. From the feel off of the face, to the looks, to the weight its a perfect putter. If you would easily spend 200+ dollars on a driver why would you not spend it on the most important club in your bag? It makes perfect sense to me. These putters inspire confidence, the more confident you are the more putts drop and that's the bottom line.

Scotty Cameron putters are awesome. Easy to say that it is just a status thing until you use one for a while. I bought one last year here from Payne4ever. Paid $200 for a used putter. I gave the Odyssey to my son. The Odyssey was really good but the Scotty Cameron is just awesome.
In our group of 8 to 10 guys who plays together regularly I was probably the fourth to sixth putter. Last year by the end I was the best putter. Believe me, the putter made a big difference. (also shaved a few stroke off my handicap)
Just a quick word, unless you have driven a BMW anybody can say it is a status thing. But from people that own one they only have good thing to say about them.
Enjoy your march break...

PS: I don't own a BMW

Unless you've been blindfolded and tried a bunch of different putters, how do you know? Is it possilble you've been seduced by the name? If you drove a Mazda 6 SPEED and a BMW would you know the difference? I'd love to run an experiment, I bet that 3/4 of you would fail to distinguish between an expensive Scotty or a BMW over a Mazda.
