    The Golfworks - SOLD!!!

Golfworks has been sold to Golf Galaxy. According to the report, this includes the Ontario branch here on Industrial, Avenue. Golf Galaxy is the American equivalent of Golftown.

It will be interesting to see what the implications are. Probably nothing, as I believe GT and GG are independent of each other.

Yeah . One big implication. Who is GT's main provider for parts?

Are they really independent of each other? This smells of the Best Buy Future Shop deal. I still have not figured out how it makes sense for one company to have 2 stores directly eside each other. Although it is funny that they dont always have the same price but will beat each other if you bring it up.

I've been in the Golf Galaxy store in Louisville, KY and while similar to Golftown, you can really only have one format for big box golf stores, Golf Galaxy had a huge collection of used clubs available, all nicely displayed in their own section. That's something that I haven't seen offered at Golftown, yet.

The shaft and grip manufacturers, who also supply Golfworks, Golfsmith, Custom Club Shop et al.

My understanding is that GT was getting all their parts from a known supplier i.e not direct. Ever wondered why some parts were in but on hold?

Don't know if this has anything to do with their sale to GG, but GW is clearing out a bunch of their heads. Check it out if anyone is looking for some new clubs.

People at Golfworks in Ottawa told me they do a lot of business with Golf Town. Good for them, but nothing is lost and nothing is created, things are just transformed. What they sell to Golf Town are components they won't be selling to clubmakers.

OK. Since the cat is out of the bag. I get po'd when stuff is in but GT gets priority and i have to wait til GT's order is released until i can get my hands on my order. I understand though as I am a peanut customer while GT spends big $.

Have you noticed a significant increase in prices at Golfworks this year?

I bought a few things there recently and noticed that last years $11 cost of an item is now $14, (27%) and so on. In checking the prices of a 5 item GW order, in the Golfsmith catalogue, every item was cheaper. For example, a $6.00 grip at GW is $4.50 at GS.

As it costs me $10 in gas to drive to GW, and only a few bucks more to get shipped from GS, maybe it's time to look elsewhere as GS almost always has what you want in stock.

Each customer is important and we little guys ought not to be neglected.

I have not noticed. However I believe they have(or used to) the price matching policy. So if that is a concern bring it up to them. Look at what I got yesterday.
