Hamilton Area Courses
I am moving to Hamilton in May and am looking for a good course to become a member of. I will still be an intermediate golfer and want a nice course but can't afford more than $1300 plus bar tab. Ideally i am looking for a course about 7,000 from the tips with rating of 127/72. Let me know of any courses that might fit the bill! Not interested in Clublink courses.
Courses can be in Burlington, Ancaster, Dundas or Hamilton anything within 20 of Hamilton.

King's Forest fits the bill perfectly. Rates are as follows:
Adult, full seven day $1520
Intermediate (18-21) $1042.
We have a strong group of guys who play a regular Wed. and Friday afternoon game for $12 each. Monthly championships and many other events. Take a look .

It is busy but times are not to difficult to get. I've been there for three years and off and on since 1986. My son Chris and I play every Mon. and Thursday after 10:00 during the summer and I play in most of the "Wed. Boy" games for $.
Chris and I play every Sunday after 12:00 noon from opening till the end of June.

I agree with rgk5. It's one of the best deals in the area. It's a good challenge. However, it can get really crowded and slow on the weekends during prime-time. I guess that's to be expected when it's not a private course. From my research, no where else really competes with this price unless you want an evening membership.

Last year, Sunday games averaged 4:35-4:45. Only once did it hit five hours.

i think me and my buddy might have to check out King's Forest this summer then. Do you know the course's website? Or a link to where i can get a registration form for a membership?

Two other good courses in the area are Copetown Woods and Willow Valley. They are both nice, somewhat links style courses, but Copetown is about $20 cheaper .. and a nicer atmosphere.
Kings Forest is nice, but could be a thousand times nicer, if the lazy city workers knew what they were doing to maintain it. The property is amazing, but it just isn't conditioned good enough to be a top course.

I know that Copetown Woods is a great course and would love to play there, but they don't have memberships, just package deals on rounds of golf. Being someone who plays 80+ rounds a year, the package round deals are not good deals for me. Willow Valley is the same problem for me, i was looking for either a public or private course where i can get a summer membership for less than $1300 as an intermediate member, 22yrs old.

The other issue is that with no membership, you give up all the club competitions.

Mystic
Hey again,
Hope you enjoyed King's Forest, but if not, try Mystic. It's very reasonable for an intermediate membership ($1,250 if 25 or under). Remember that you have to use a cart so that'll cost $14 a round for members or there is a yearly membership.
Anyway, if interested, here's the website.

I joined this fall for next year. The course was still in great shape. No real clubhouse, so don't expect much there.
Have fun!

ya i have been thinking strongly about Mystic if i do stay in the Hammer next summer. Lochness links is another option, although in Welland i have a few buddies who live in St. Kitts, so it will hopefully entice them to become members as well, giving me some guys to play with.
Hope if all goes well i might be in Perth, Aus in Feb though!
