Tree stump
Gary:
Last weekend my playing companion hit his tee shot into the middle of an old tree stump that had the middle rotted out. How is this ruled? The stump was about 3 inches high and he had no way of hitting the shot without damaging his club & himself. The stump was just slightly off the fairway in the light rough.
We were playing a $25.00 course so nothing was marked, but normally, would/should this be G.U.R.????
Thanks

There is no relief without penalty from a tree stump.
Generally, the tree stump would not be marked as ground under repair unless the maintenance staff was actually in the process of removing the stump.
You get a bonus point for correctly identifying another person in your group as a "playing companion".
A cup is something you drink coffee out of.
A pin is a safety mechanism on a hand-grenade.
A flag is an emblem for a country.
A trap is a device for sealing escaping gases in a sink.
