Maps to Courses & Satellite views
All courses in the Featured Courses sections of all sites in our network now include new road maps that are zoom and pan enabled, as well as satelite images of all the courses.
All thanks to the GoogleMaps API!
The courses closer to populated areas are rendered in great resolution, while the outlying courses offer limited zoom capability. All courses have been included since you never know when google will increase the resolution, and even the lower zoom levels are cool.
The higher res satelite images are really interesting. Be sure to check out the Florida courses, quite different than the layouts in Ottawa and Montreal. Enjoy!

OK, the new Featured Courses regional maps are now up. I have some more odds and ends to finish, but I thought I'd release it now since I am so happy with it as is.

I mean, it looks great and is a nice feature to have. But I don't like having the map as the default page (really, how many times do you need to use the map?). It takes forever to load - especially on my Pentium III at work - and right now that is the only way I can get to the course information.
The old course listing was much easier and faster to navigate, and I could quickly get to the important info - the pro shop #, the green fee rates and the scorecard. IMHO, it worked better with the map as an optional page after the course listing.
And is the telephone listing of ALL Ottawa area golf courses is gone too? Do I have to go to Flagstick.com to get the pro shop # for Hammond now?
One minor thing I did notice with the Ottawa map was that the Legend covers up the bottom scroll button on the course list at 800x600 resolution (which I believe is what most people use). As a result, you can't scroll down to the last course. I'm being picky, but I would not be happy if I owned Timber Run.Golf is a game invented by the same people who think music comes out of bagpipes.

Thanks for the feedback el tigre. Your point is well taken and I was actually thinking along the same lines. I certainly do not want the new maps to slow down access to the courses. The course lists are still there, I just was just looking at ways to put them on the menu. I think I'll put things back the way they were as you suggest with the maps under a main menu.

One thing's for sure, you get to see things that you wouldn't otherwise without the sattelite views.
Anyone else notice the 19th hole at Loch March (the real one, not the bar)? It's a pretty distinctive dog-leg-right par-4 located between the 17th and the main road. The tee box is next to the house on the top of the hill behind the 17th green, and the green is hidden in the trees behind the clubhouse.
Take a look. Pretty cool huh? When applying the Rules, you follow them line by line. You don't read between them.

At Loch March there are also another 8 holes cut out of the trees on the other side of the road. This has been there since they built the course. It was planned to be 27 holes.
You can see the new holes being built at Gatineau to the North East of the current course.
The Patterson's new course at Anderson Rd.
