Many people have made that claim and failed. But if you truly believe and persevere through all the struggles you can succeed at this most difficult game. Good luck and don't give up!

Why do you think that is? Why fail when you can be great just by practising and being patience....

Because for a simple game (in theory, hit the ball in the hole) many things have to be done right to play well. So many parts of your body have to work in sync to hit the ball on line to where you are aimed. And for some who don't grasp this game quickly like other sports they played tend to give up on it. Many believe it is so simple to go out and hit the ball, I once thought that way, but it takes time and patience to develop a good swing. But if all you are looking for is an activity to get outside and couldn't care less where the ball ends up then golf is good that way as well. Many people get different levels of enjoyment out of this game in many ways. For some its getting out with friends. For others its that one perfect shot that day. For some its just a little exercise. That is what makes golf so great, you make what you want of it. No teamates or coaches, just you and the course. So enjoy your time taking up this great sport. It can be tons of fun.

I was the same way when I started out. Its very interesting learning about all the equipment, courses and instruction this game has to offer. I don't think you can ever stop learning something new about this game. There is just so much information out there for the average golfer to tap into.

I purchase it online at Chapters.ca...here's the link:
http://www.chapters.indigo.ca/item.a...n=books&zxac=1
I'm sure they have it at the store but I tend to order books online these days if I can save a few bucks. I'd lend it to you but a buddy of mine has it.
I'm sure you'll enjoy it...very informative.

Here is the link to their website. I made a typo in my first post, it's Rob to Ron. Sorry Rob!
http://www.hylandsgc.com/
For a beginner I would go with Rebbeca or Rob. Mike is a good instructor as well but in my experience seems better with a more advance player who already understands the basic mechanics. Could be wrong though, either way they are all great people who are easy to deal with.

Howdy, I am new here and new to golf. I played this past year with a 30-year old set of free clubs and my goal this winter was to take lessons and try and learn a repeatable swing.
To that end, I began taking lessons at Rick Boisvert's (http://www.ottawagolf.com/rickboisvert/) and have made lots of progress. I think he is a very competent instructor. The facility is a little "ghetto" but I find it charming; more like Rock's barn than Ivan Drago's high-tech, but heartless, communist facility (Rocky IV).
Regarding equipment; I had to get rid of my 30-year old clubs after my first practice as Rick informed me they are an inch too short. Apparently, my Johnny Miller 1000's were cut down at some point in the last 30 years. Rick advised me to get a used set of good clubs as opposed to a new set of not-so-good clubs. Also, he recommended getting them at Chuck Brown's. I popped by there and can now say I own (used) $1000 irons. I think all their used clubs are 20% the listed price right now.

My question is "Where is "RICHARD" ? Usually when a new lady checks in "Richard" is all over her with his charm
N2G, welcome and enjoy your time here. This is a great bunch of people who love the game of golf.
I read how you want to be #1 in golf. Great attitude but please remember. Golf this a never ending learning process. I have played the game for 24 years now and I am still trying to figure out how to play it properly, day in and day out. It sure looks easy when you watch it on TV, but as Geoff said............................
Enjoy the game, do not let it frustrate you. Remember it is not always about the score, it is always about the friendships you make through the game.My opinions are my own, I do not follow others.
