Hello..New to Golf and this site :)
Hey
My name is Peggy and I am very new to golf. I am in the process of buying my clubs, having just bought my irons over the weekend. I am also in the process of looking for a teacher as I will be taking lessons soon.
Does anyone know any very good and patient lol teahers in Ottawa/Gatineau? And none of my friends like golf so it would be nice to chat with people who love golf and maybe to play when I am good enough
I hope to talk to a lot of you soon

Hi Peggy:
If you like to chat about golf you've come to the right place. Welcome!
My personal choice for a teacher in the Ottawa/Gatineau area would be Kevin Haime. I'm sure other members will be chiming in with their favorites.

As good as Kevin Haime maybe, his rates are pretty high. I find Greg Foley who is one of the instructors at Haime's to be a really good teacher, espcially for us beginners. And his rates are much lower than Kevin himself.

Since you are very new to golf and none of your friends like golf, I'm going to suggest you start out with group lessons. Most of the golf schools offer them for beginners, and often they have "women-only" groups if you feel more comfortable with that. This is an inexpensive way to start out and learn the basics, and you also get to meet other golfers who are at the same level as you. You might have to wait until spring to find any though. When you get a little more comfortable with the game, go for private lessons with more individualized instruction.
It would help if we knew which end of town you are in. Kevin Haime is not a good option if you are in Orleans. Personally, I would recommend Warren Grant. He teaches at the Thunderbird Golf Domes in Kanata and Blackburn Hamlet in the winter and at the Manderley golf course in the summer. But there lots of other good ones. Good luck!Golf is a game invented by the same people who think music comes out of bagpipes.

New to golf with no friends that golf? don't worry about it, there are plenty of willing partners for you in here and just out there in general..... As for the teacher, it depends where you live and what your expectations are. There are plenty around the Ottawaw/Gatineau area and a a few good golfer(ettes) in here that might be willing to help you or suggest who they took lessons from. I understand that Danielle Nadon is good for the ladies but I wouldn't really know....

Welcome New2Golf. I'd agree that group lessons are a good way to start out, and practice at the range of course.
There are 2 ladies leagues, open to beginners and full of enthusiastic gals. They are both big operations with plenty of members playing weekly games at different courses...

Hi Peggy.
Golf is a wonderful game for meeting new people. You'll find, for the most part, just about everyone who is short of a 4-some will let you join them in a game.
Winter is great for getting better. And if I can suggest, start around the green and work back. Putting and pitching are things that are easy to learn and start to enjoy the game, and are 1/2 of the game's score. But definitely try to practice when you can, and don't get discouraged. Its a game of patience and practice....and fun.

Welcome. I suggest you look into the RA Golf School. It is indoors during the winter and provides a good start.
