    Question Grip question.

As it is time to replace the grips on my clubs again, I was wondering how much harder it is to install the soft Winn grips compared to a firmer grip. I have changed a couple of grips on old clubs just to see how hard it is but never with Winns. I am told they are trickier to install. Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

They're actually not that hard to install... just don't try to remove them and save the grip. I just had to cut a whole set of them off some irons because I needed to shorten them. Struggled for half an hour to pull one grip and then broke out the hook blade...

Listen to Reid on this one! Trying to save a Winn is tricky stuff, tried needling one and it just feel apart. I wonder if they come off easier with a compressor?

I was wondering about removing grips myself today.
I want to replace my wife's steel shafts with graphite but her steel shafts have totally new Lamkin crosslines. Any way I can remove them without destroying them? It seems all of the how-to directions I've seen have the clubmaker just cutting the grip away.
Suggestions? (obviously I'm a total newbie to any of this hands-on stuff)

I'll third the comments on removing Winns. I've done one successfully that I can remember.

On the other hand, Lamkin crosslines are a piece of cake. All you need are one of the spring steel removal tools ( http://www.golfworks.com/product.asp_Q_pn_E_VGGR ).

    The procedure is pretty simple.

    1. Wet the remover with grip solvent.
    2. Slide it under the bottom end of the grip about 1/2 inch.
    3. Squirt some more solvent down the grip between the shaft and the tool.
    4. Twist the club while pushing the tool towards the butt of the grip.
    5. Add solvent as in 3 if you get stuck.

Once you get the hang of it you should be able to remove a grip in under 1 minute.

You had to cut those grips off? They only had about 10-15 rounds on them, they were new this year. Oh well, here's hoping Winn can improve in that department.

Wynn grips can be removed with a compressor. Just a different technique than a regular grip. I've given up on the blade. It's messy and the grip tape remains in the grip .

I have had 80% success with removing Winn grips using the canister and the needle. You must penetrate the rubber and get right through to the shaft and squirt away.

    Grip removal

I have found that the hardest are the older wrap style, but the newer one piece outer grips are fairly simple if you use a pressure gun with a needle and naptha. i would say depending on how old I have about a 70% save rate.

Yep. I just have the simple grip removal tool, which works pretty well on most grips. I've thought of getting the compressor setup, but what I have works fine for everythign but Winn style grips.
Broke my heart to cut them off but fortunately I had a brand new set of Crosslines lying around .
