    Re-shafting a SW

    Hi folks

Not sure this is the right section so if not just move me.
I have a Wilson Staff RM sand wedge that has a graphite Fat Shaft on it. I hate the shaft but love the wedge so I want to get it set up with a new shaft. Is it possible to replace this? Looks like it should be possible but I'm no expert. Any suggestions on a shaft if I can get it done?

    Thanks

    Milner

Your only problem will be the fat shaft. Probably have to get one from Wilson in steel if that is what you are looking for. If not I don't know if they make a shim big enough to allow a .370" shaft. Maybe one of the hobbyists can chime in here.

I never understood the use of a fat shaft, maybe it's marketing so people have to keep buying wilson gear.. Maybe it's nice but i've never seen them here. I don't know how much it'll cost you to replace the shaft, but maybe it could cost the same to buy a new one with steel shaft. I found Wilson wedges at 30$ at tgw.

    Doc:
Unfortunately we don’t know of any replacement shafts that will fit the fat shaft clubs. We have in the past taken a junior graphite shaft butt, .500" and epoxied it into the hosel then shimmed a shaft to the inside of the junior shaft. We had to make a ferrule out of a plastic handle that we use on a tool in the shop. It worked and the customer was happy.

seems quite weird to make. Maybe you'll find a used fatshaft club on ebay at a good price, and you can take the shaft and transfer it.

Yeah thats right. I am looking to still use the same clubhead and change the shaft. Looks like I may have to suck it up and buy a new wedge. Maybe not though well see. Thanks

True, but I too thought he was reffering to the fact that it was graphit and maybe wanted a steel shaft to replace it. The reality is that these shafts are only good for these club heads and since they do not hold a huge after market appeal, after market shaft companies have not jump on board with their technology. Buy a new wedge!

Done! I picked up a Forged Chrome Clevend 900 54 degree today at Golftown for $68.00. Feels nice, I am looking forward to giving it a go.

I think you just saved yourself a few headaches! Plus you can always sell the old wedge for a few bucks and make your new one that much cheaper.

Good choice you made, and as it is forged you can change lie and loft without problems ( i changed my vokey lies, but don't try with harder cast steel , you know which brand i'm talking about )

Thanks! It has great feel and is a steal for what I paid for it. Top quality wedge for a great price.

I noticed in the OEM replacement Ferrule Kit I have from http://www.golfworks.com/ there are some adapters for the Wilson Fat Shafts. I don't know if they sell them separately. The kit cost approx $50 USC.

Is wilson still making clubs with fat shaft or they stopped? I went to a store and found a fat shaft driver, it looked like i was playing with the butt of the shaft , i really feel like i'm going to hit a violent hook
