Re-gripping questions

New to the sport of golf and I have aquired a set of clubs from a friend of mine that are quite a few years old. My question is ... What are the advantages of getting the clubs re-gripped? Why does this have to be done if the grips are not ripped or torn?

Why do people change shoes if they're not ripped or torn?

The grips might not look ripped or torn, but if they have been used they will have lost the surface texture which helps provide your ability to grip the club comfortably without over squeezing. So they might feel a bit slippery or polished when you slide them through your hand, or don't have any tackiness for instance.

Since you want a gentle grip on the club it is important to have good grips. Having them regripped is a very small price to pay to bring a decent set of clubs back to life. And at this time of year you will be able to find some discounts on re-gripping work.

Get them re-gripped. I got my metal woods regripped and man what a difference. They were just like new again and it only cost 10 dollars

If you don't have oily hands there is no need to change your grips all that often. Of course it is always a good idea but if you don't have the resources and your grips are slick try sanding them off with a fine sanding paper and then brush with a little soap and water. They will be then just like new. Guaranteed.
