Indoor Multi Complex - Coming Soon

I heard that a new indoor multi golf complex is in the works. This site will boast a 50 acre, COVERED, dome-style facility. There will be a nine hole par three course, 5000 square foot practice green, REAL sand, and a 300 yard driving range!

    WOW

Where did you hear that? Where is is supposed to be located? Doming in 50 acres including an indoor par 3 does not sound very practical.

I heard about something similar to this in Montreal. It was supposed to be a completely covered 18 hole course. Doesn't really sound feasible to me.

If they could just enlarge it a little to cover the whole city, we wouldn't have to brush the snow off our cars anymore.

A friend of mine sells and installs coverall superstructures, and I don't think they can make a building bigger than a football stadium, which is small compared to what is described above.
They have some images of large covered spaces on their site:
    www.coverall.net
Its pretty hard to imagine something large enough to cover a par 3 course, let alone the cost.

I am assuming the par 3 course would be outside.. In toronto when I was taking the golf management program we had free privilages at a dome like the one described above. They had a indoor dome (the size of a small football feild) You could hit balls two levels. Also had a putting green and bunker.. Outside for the summer the had a driving range and practice facility as well as a par 3 course. I don't think it would be possible to have a par 3 indoor.. I would think what wrxforsale is talking about would be similar to the one in Toronto.

There is a whopping difference between what he described above as:

    "a 50 acre, COVERED, dome-style facility."

and a 50 acre facility, featuring a covered dome area.

It's official then. Tiger Woods is building a covered dome in Ottawa.
I got a fever. And the only prescription is more golf equipment.

After all ottawagolfnut has done for him, it's about time Tiger gives something back to the City of Ottawa. Now where can I buy my lifetime membership? Price is no object.

covered par 3? Possible yes cost effective NO. I wouldn't believe it until I saw it. If they can build indoor ski hills in Japan why not indoor golf courses here? I agree that one structure would not be possible due to sheer size but if there were many structures attached by covered walkways.............keep dreaming all. The only time we will get to play golf in winter in Ottawa will be when we all smarten up and move somewhere warmer.

.... no really, I meant to play that shot off the ceiling, ricocheting off the side wall, deflecting off the support post, hitting the flagstick and dropping into the cup. I practice that shot ALL the time!

I think that there was an old old thread about this. I'll see what I can find.

This is science fiction. It can only happen in Dubai, nowhere else.

I wonder who would pay the price to play inside such a facility when it's -25c outside and there are a maximum of 72 people (18 foursomes) on the heated 9 hole course. I wonder what they'd charge?

I don't see such a facility being built in Ottawa personally, maybe in the Arctic, but who would go to this from April to October? Just my 2 cents. I would though be very curious to see such a massive building!

I think the rumour was based on one opening in Montreal. Reid, do you remember this?

I think the fee of "an arm and a leg" would apply here!

Not to mention that nobody would play it for 7 months of the year. Unless the dome was removable and the grass was real, and it was a great design... but I doubt it.

Rememer the dome in Hull years ago? Nice dome and worth the drive. Thunderbird in Carp uses their dome exclusively for soccer now, golf is into nets in another building. The dome at landsdowne is no longer used as a range.
Indoor range domes come and go around here. Hard to make a profit. Toronto is warmer in winter so domes are cheeper to heat.
This sounds like a bad investment.

I remember this & I'm pretty sure there was a thread about it. If I remember correctly a main investor was a former NHL hockey player.

I couldn't find anything on it, but the hockey player rings a bell.

Wasn't it supposed to be built in Montreal by an ex-Canadiens player and some other investors?

    Here is the old thread:

    http://forum.golfresource.net/showthread.php?t=1561

And it was Guy Carbonneau (ex-Canadiens player)

But now it sounds his plan turned from an indoor golf course to a "OttawaGolf.com Club/Golf a la Carte" type of business where you become a member and have acces to lots of courses for cheaper than regular green fees - Yeah! that plan worked well!

I seem to remember my brother in Montreal telling me about a dome
    in the west end.
Cant remember what he said, but there is one.
I think he said it had an indoor par 3-9 hole plus a range?
Also said it was quite popular.
    I'll look into it.
