Any interest in hosting Blogs here?
If you are not aware, a Blog is a "web-log" or personal journal / diary.
Users could each have thier own Blog where they could keep a golf diary or anything they'd like. Other users could then comment on blog entries.
Do you folks think that would be something you'd be interested in?

While I don't think I'd keep one, I'd be very keen to read them.
I just didn't feel my answer of "...I might read 'em..." was enthusiastic enough.Last edited by Sakuraba; 12-15-2005 at 02:47 PM.

I'd be keen to read them and possibly maintain one.

i think that would be a cool idea. I would think that i would keep one during golf season. Also, the way i sell and trade golf clubs, i would probably be able to maintain one over the winter months as well!!

I can't even keep track of what clubs I bought or what rounds I played last week, let alone keep a BLOG to detail everything.
Would be fun to read the activities of others though.

Ok then just install it, if some people don't want then they don't keep a blog, and the others keep their blogs...

The issue is not that simple. With any expansion there is a maintenance overhead. Too many of these hacks makes upgrading the forum software more complex. I will only install hacks that have significant value to the users. It's a balancing act. So far, the jury is still out on blogs.

Well maybe because it is off season over there. Just ask the same thing in 4-5 months , it won't be the same i think so. And 4 want blogs , only 2 don't want, do it looks like we are winning .

Sure, I appreciate your enthusiasm. It seems that those who like blogs like them a lot. Those who don't care, won't be hurt by it so the vote is defnately in favour. However 4 users who'd definately use it is not a lot of demand. Nor is a handful of hours much of an opportunity to chime in. I'll wait a bit before making a call.

Yes but maybe when we keep a blog, some people discover what it can be, and decide to have theirs. And it would give more colors to the forum.

Would there be much oversight as to what was posted in the blogs? I'm not speaking of profanity or whatever, more about raw opinions and thoughts on the local golf experience. Not much point in blogging if you can't say how you really feel about a course, etc.

That's a good question. I respect the fact that l blogs are a more personal commentary than a forum post and people should be allowed to post freely in their blog. However, brutal rants against a facility after a bad day could be a real problem. I have never opposed critisizm when it's presented politely. Flame wars are much less likely to come up in blogs so that is not a real concern.
Also if we relax the rules in the blogs, people may feel it's OK to continue it in the open forum, which would be a problem.
At any rate, that is one of the issues I have with the blog concept. Still only 4 people who want it so we'll see if demand grows before worying about the details too much.

They are no less personal.
That is why people read them. It is just 1 person's (yourself) thoughts. You find someone who is interesting, different, maybe similar to yourself, humorous, then u read them.
The moment u sanitize them it changes the point.
I however hope this doesn't take away from the idea. U can still set clear rules on the difference between the blogs and the forum, on standards etc.

With only 4 positive responses I think we'll put this off for now and look at it again in the spring.

Bucky, if you're keen to have a blog and for people on this forum to read it, just go to http://www.blogger.com/start, fire one up, then post the URL as part of your sig. As for blogs on this site, I'm sure there will be more interest from the OG community in the spring. People can tend to lock themselves in their igloos over here in the winter. It can get a bit desperate.

Not stupid, while they put some blogs here , i'll keep one on another blog site, and put the link . Maybe a good solution would be to put a blog link on your profile, and put a button to get access to it. It makes no more host for the website, just a little mod.
