No tee markers
On a recent round we were playing the white tees at the course in questions when we approached the teeing area of one of the holes and there were no tee markers in place (I guess someone forgot to replace them following maintenance work).
Is there any rules or guidelines as to where you should tee off under that (rather odd) circumstance? There was no imbedded indication of the position of the tees that we could see, so we just played from about the middle of the tee box. Its not a big deal, but I was just curious to know if there is some rule which needs to be followed.

Playing from the middle is appropriate for a casual round.
In a competition, you would have to advise the Committee and wait until they rectified the situation.
