Is this forum still alive ?

    Where has everyone gone ?
Gary, I seem to remember that some time ago you introduced a 'tester' question but iti only seemed to last a short time. Have you any plans to reintroduce it?

its not exactly golf season anymore! There are not a lot of us that live and breathe golf the way i do. It seems to slow now and then pick up again in the spring. There are no tourneys to talk about, nobody buys clubs in the winter, so its hard to find lots to talk about in the winter.

Yes most people use the rules section here to resolve situations that arise on course. The Rules forum definately quiets down when the courses close.

it's a very difficult job to learn the entire official golf rules i sometimes make mistakes, and i wanted to know, what happens if some kind of animal takes your ball away and drops it somewhere else. Have you got to play it from where it is or can you take it back to original position?

Grateful to see that I'm not the only one left on the planet

If your ball was stationary and is moved by an animal simply replace it without penalty. Rule 18-1.
If it was moving, play it as it lies Rule 19-1 but read the rule because it depends where you where when you played it.

    Tester Question:

A player's ball lies against a board at the base of an out of bounds fence. While standing out of bounds, the player swings a club from the out of bounds side of the fence against the board. The stroke moves the board which causes the ball to move away from the fence and towards the fairway.

Name the penalties and explain each one.

Gary, I have a question for you:

A player's ball lies against a board at the base of an out of bounds fence. While standing out of bounds, the player swings a club from the out of bounds side of the fence against the board. The stroke moves the board which causes the ball to move away from the fence and towards the fairway.

Name the penalties and explain each one. Thanks Gary, a friend of mine would like to know

    AAA:

Please check your answer. (Or should I say, please check the question. The ball was not deflected or stopped; instead, it was picked up by the animal.)

    Senior moment.
Actually the original post simply said the animal 'had taken the ball away' so I wasn't sure if it was moving at the time. 19-1 of course covers both 'off the green' and 'on the green' in the ball in motion situation.

    AAA:

    Agreed. Rule 19-1 may apply.

And if applied, the ball would not be played as it lies.

Obviously my original question was miststaken - there have been just short of 250 posts since then.
