Push
I sometimes push the ball to the right (I am right handed). It goes perfectly straight at about a 30 degree angle. I make solid contact. This happens with my long irons (5 to 2) but not with the short irons.
I thought the problem was with my ball position so I make sure that the ball is about 2 inches inside my left foot. Still happens. I thought it may be caused by the offset in my new irons (Calloway X-12s) but after using my old irons I see that it still happens but maybe not as often.
What could I be doing wrong?

I don't get too many birdies and eagles, but I get plenty of "others". I call them loonies and double loonies.

Loon the only thing I can suggest is that you try to allow your hands to rotate with your body. For example take half swings while practicing and try to ensure that youthumbs are on top of the club when your hands are hip high. Another way of thinking of it is that the toe of the club is pointing to the sky when your hands are hip high. If ths does not work go see a CPGA member for help.
