You should never buy a set of clubs again before reading this book. It does not show you how to build clubs. It is about clubfitting i.e lie angles, swing speed, launch angle, face angles, ideal club length, angle of attack, shaft selection etc... Let me give you an example. My wrist to floor measurement is 34.5 therefore my driver's maximum length should be 43.5. A friend of mine(same height as me) has a 36.5 wrist to floore measurement therefore his ideal length for a driver is 44 inches.

A set of golf clubs should should fit to your physical characteristics AND the way you swing the golf club, rather than have YOU adjust to the clubs. There are 20+ factors that ought to be considered when buying a set of golf clubs. When you buy from a retailer, MOST of these 20 factors are not considered, and is, in part, why so many golfers continue to buy the latest "innovation" in their "search for the perfect club," and yet end up dissatisfied.

The book gives you an understanding of all of these factors and their relative importance in the performance of a club. For example: "What is the most important characteristic of the shaft?" Many would say that the flex of the shaft is important for distance, however, the answers are: (1) total weight, and (2) accuracy. The book dispels many of the myths that the OEM marketers use to convince us to buy their product.

After reading the book, you should be able to ask a slew of intelligent questions to a salesperson, which might show how little he knows, or if you go to a club fitter, you will be able to determine if what is being suggested, will actually benefit your game.

The book is a very easy read with a minimum of technical jargon used. Tom Wishon IMO, is the best in the business, and is a no BS kind of a guy. He has a forum at www.wishongolf.com, that is also very imformative and in which he takes part.

    "Common Sense Clubfitting"
Is this a new book, or the one that he wrote in the 90's?

It's a new one and don't know if it's been published. Page 7 of the 2005 catalogue.
