Amberwood Golf course
Played this course this weekend for the first time. It is in great shape, greens are fast and the price is right ($28 for 18!!!)
Just a heads up as this course is not too well known.

you call $28 for 18 holes at Amberwood a good deal? - Not to bash the course, but unless you are a beginner, this course is not going to satisfy you. It's great for kids to learn, but at $28, it's not what I would call a bargain. Check out some of the other courses on this site. You'll find some good deals on regulation length courses

I call $28 on a weekend for 18 holes a good deal at any course in as good condition as Amberwood usually is. Granted it is short, and it is 9 holes played twice, but it is certainly pretty and well maintained

Mr Shank.
Unless you are shooting in the low 70's, every course is a challenge.
Amberwood is a fun course, in great shape. Yes it is good for beginners but it is also great for all other golfers as well.
$28 is great on the weekend. Most places are getting up in the mid to high $30's now...
So here's an idea. Pay the $28, play Amberwood, shoot par and then tell me it's not a challenge.

doc - I didn't say Amberwood wasn't a challenge. In fact the word challenge appeared nowwhere in my post. You can't compare Amberwood to other regulation length courses that have 18 holes. Let's see, Canadian, just a few minutes further down the road charges $30 for 18 holes on their west course. Conditoining just as good as Amberwood & it s regulation length.
Also, course design plays a factor in my enjoyment of a course & you can't tell me this is a well designed course.
Amberwood is in great shape, but is definitely not for all golfers as you have implied.
Although it is of no relevance, last time I played Amberwood I was even par...I guess that means it's not a challenge?

Prices at the Canadian
18 Holes Monday to Thursday $35.00
18 Holes Friday - Sunday or Holidays $42.00
$28 on the weekend - a good value - apples and oranges.

wow... didn't think I would have generated so many replies!!!
I was just pointing out that this course was a good bang for the buck, regardless of skill level...
You don't hear much about it so I was simply stating that it was a decent track.

oops - you're right Dan - i think it's the east course that is the 9 hole. - go around twice for $30?
dasnutz - don't take offence - i often like to play devil's advocate on these threads and offer a different opinion whether it is right or wrong is another story. However, with all the differing opinoins here it keeps things interesting!

The East nine at Canadian played twice is certainly a better comaprison, and at $30, a great value as well.

East nine @ Canadian
Matter of fact, I prefer the east nine over the west 18. Not sure why, but I just enjoy it more.
And Mr shank: in some places, playing devil's advocate is called "trolling". ;-)

I thought trolling was what I was doing when I go down to the market on a Saturday night!

apologies
Mr. Shank, I apologize for using the word challenge. You said that the course would not satisfy you.
If a course is in great shape, not too slow and a good price that is satisfying to me. Shooting a really good score is also satisfying to me.
Playing Emerald Links, or somewhere similar, for $45 on a weekend, and taking 5 hours is not satisfying.

gotta agree with mr shank on this one
I too, like a good conditioned course but would rather play a full 18 hole round on a full course, compared to a nine holes x 2 round. I have played Amberwood and have liked bringing my dayghter there to play and had great times.
The course is always in good condition, price is right and the pace of play is ususally good.
I guess it all depends on what you are looking for in a round of golf.
.........golfdoc.............get up earlier and play emerald links before 7am and play that elusive 4-4 1/2 hour weekend round!

amberwood is a great target golf course.
length is definitely not a factor, but it's a wonderful course to be able to hit an iron of the tee and still only have a wedge to the green.
i just found some of the starters to be a little rude!
