question about driver vs 3 wood

I have the g2 driver 11.5* and bought the g5 3w 15* and they have the same specs for the shaft but for some reason i'm hitting the 3w only a few yards less than the driver. The driver hooks a bit or slices a bit but the 3w is pretty much straight. Any reason to keep the driver if the 3w is doing the job? No point keeping two clubs in the bag that are $400 each if they both do the same thing....

The 3 wd has more loft which reduces sidespin which equals straighter shots. Also being a shorter shaft offers you more control which most likely leads to better contact= straighter, longer shots. Some players even go to a 12 or 13* loft on the 3 wd to get even more distance but are still more accurate than their driver. But as for whether or not to keep both in the bag is a personal preference. As you progress in skill you could always re-purchase a driver later to squeeze even those few more yards out of your swing. Hope this helps thotho.
