    Bell Canadian Open

It's finally here! Are you going to watch it? Will Weir make the cut? Can VJ defend, probably yes unless he plays ping pong again!

Of course I'm gonna watch it. Very special annual event for me.
In 1997 I got to photograph it from inside the ropes at Royal Montreal. It's an experience I'll never forget. Walked several fairways just yards from Greg Norman and Steve Jones as they battled it out (Jones won). They were 10 - 20 deep outside the ropes. Just amazing.

    As was I.

I was at Glen Abbey Fri-Sun last year, but won't make it to BC this year.

I envy you guys. Here in Indiana we don't get much PGA golf except for TV. Also you guys have a great hometown hero in Mike Weir, I love that guy. Our hometown hero is Fuzzy Zoeller who won the Masters but, he is also well known for his racial remarks. Anyway enjoy and I hope Weir wins!

Mike Weir is +5 through 6 with no pars and one birdie. Time to find the groove, Mike.

Further evidence he should just shut it down for the season, get his back/neck healed and come back strong for next year. That is what a team would do with an ace baseball pitcher if it was late in the season and they were pretty much out of the pennant race. Mike is basically out of the pennant race this year as the top 30 and Tour Championship are out of reach the way he is playing. He should just play the Prseident's Cup, go home, get better, and come out strong next season.

    A little early to call

Give him a chance. Mike birdied 4 of last 5 to come in at 1 over par. He is not done and definitely has something to play for tomorrow.

A few pars on the front and it could have been a good round.

He is definitely a scrappy player who can tough it out. Hopefully he can make a run Friday and on the weekend. I still think he should take some time and make sure he is really healthy.

He stated his back/neck was not an issue.

He is currently 46th on the Money List, and $ 379,512 behind Tim Petrovic who is in 30th.
That kind of cash is pretty easy to make up on tour these days.

He has only played in 20 tournaments and made 13 cuts. So it is not like he is worn out from playing.

He needs a good showing this week to boost his confidence. He admits his putting has been brutal, and that is true. He is 179th in putting average this year. That just ain't going to get it done on the PGA.

Hey he said he wanted to be there on Sunday in a duel with Vijay for the title. That says a lot about his character.

    Scores

I checked the scores from the opening round of the BCO. The Walrus kicked his son's butt by 6 strokes! The old man was even, Kevin +6. I wonder how the steak tasted last night

High score, Chris Ming, +16, 4 double boogies on his card

Calc rises up and shoots -5. Jesper is -4. Great scores on that course. I watched a lot of yesterdays telecast and man that rough is just brutal!

Did anyone else notice this or am I missing something here. It seemed that Rod Black (who I normally can not stand when he does golf telecasts) has seemed to tone down his act? Usually he goes on and on about someone going low, yada yada and it usually is quite annoying to listen to him. Nelford on the other hand is a pleasure to listen to as he knows the game well.

Here's hoping Mikey and the rest of the Canucks have great rounds today. Oh and Vijay too.

James Lepp played a 78 yesterday. This kid played in the US Amateur a few weeks ago. He also holds a record round 64 (I think) in an NCAA tournament this year.

If this kid played a 78 imagine how good the player's on the PGA are. Like the commercial says, “These guys are good”.

You must be a Tiger Lover
Or is because he defeated Mike in 2004 and broke a lot of Canadians hearts?

I guess it's a fitting end to Mike's year. A sloppy one at best.
I feel bad for him but a true test will be how he bounces back next year, Good luck in 2006

I too feel bad for him, must be very hard to take when you can't make the cut at your own championship Looked like a pretty touch course, no Mickey Mouse that's for sure.

It is nice to see Calc back in the winners circle.

Tough course and he handled it well.
