New Orleans Crisis
Greg Norman has lent his helicopter and pilot to the relief efforts in New Orleans.
Now that is class. My opinions are my own, I do not follow others.

And I've kicked in $100 to the Red Cross. I mention the amount because I think that each of us could kick in a couple of rounds worth of green fees to this worthy cause. Those folkd have nothing -- repeat nothing but the stuff on their backs! Waiting for the Feds has cost them countless lives and our government says we'll wait for a request -- we have to help them out -- $100 at a time (or whatever you can give).
Thanks for the screen-time.

Sean Penn's rescue bid sinks
Efforts by Hollywood actor Sean Penn to aid New Orleans victims stranded by Hurricane Katrina foundered badly overnight, when the boat he was piloting to launch a rescue attempt sprang a leak. Penn had planned to rescue children waylaid by Katrina's flood waters, but apparently forgot to plug a hole in the bottom of the vessel, which began taking water within seconds of its launch.
The actor, known for his political activism, was seen wearing what appeared to be a white flak jacket and frantically bailing water out of the sinking vessel with a red plastic cup. When the boat's motor failed to start, those aboard were forced to use paddles to propel themselves down the flooded New Orleans street.
Asked what he had hoped to achieve in the waterlogged city, the actor replied: "Whatever I can do to help."
With the boat loaded with members of Penn's entourage, including a personal photographer, one bystander taunted the actor: "How are you going to get any people in that thing?"
I suppose you could say he was ill-prepared, but then again that would make him no worse than everyone else..... like Bush!!!!!!Last edited by laiec; 09-06-2005 at 01:32 PM. Reason: Added jpg

I have a stupid question: If the water they are pumping out is so polluted, won't that pollute the Mississippi big time? Or are they cleaning before pumping it out to sea? Just thought I'd ask.

The Mississippi flows to the Gulf of Mexico, moving great volumes of water per day, so it is not likely to remain polluted, even in the medium term. The Gulf is so huge, that pollution probably won't last there as well. The real long term damage will be caused by the massive cull of wildlife (fish, birds, plants, marine animals, etc.) that may happen because of the short term presence of a toxic environment. That may alter that region forever, especially the wetlands that serve as the Mississippi delta.

In a story related to the related story, I heard this was propaganda spewed by the neo-con media. Apparently Penn did not bring his own photographer, his boat was not sinking, and he actually rescued 40 people.
In a third story related to the other two related stories it was confirmed than Penn is indeed a maroon.
