    Driver Lie Angle

    Hi all,

I was looking into a few of the SMT driver heads on their website, and I noticed that the DB 455 has a lie angle of 56 degrees, while the Spectrum's is 58 degrees.

This is not a SMT question, though. I have a natural draw tendancy off the tee, and would not need a driver to add to this.

My question is: Does a driver's lie angle contribute to ball flight characteristics (i.e.draw / fade)?

    Thanks,
    amac

The lie angle on the SMT clubheads are flatter in order to be used in long drive clubs. If the lie angle is too upright on a 52 inch club, the clubhead will be resting on the heel and the toe will be pointing up at address. Lie angles for woods have a minor effect on accuracy (The Golfsmith Practical Clubfitting Program by Tom Wishon). Face angle (open, square, closed ( or hook)) has a major effect on accuracy ( The Golfsmith Practical Clubfitting Program by Tom Wishon ). An offset hosel helps in reducing excessive fades/slices.

Apparently Tom wishon's new book is a dandy and reflects today's reality.

Golfsmith lost one of the best in the business when he left. They still have a great line up of clubheads but some of them are a little iffy.
