Who cares? It's the Habs.
Hopefully this new agreement today convinces Gomez to accept the nuyout this week. They Habs will face the cap hit this year, BUT only this year which is a huge issue. Having $7M off the books after this season will help them a lot.
I hear he has a new nickname. GoHomez.
Gomez has no say in the decision at all. It is totally up to the club.

If you read the article you posted, you would see that Redden or Gomez would have the right to ACCEPT the buy out or be loaned to another team...
Just to follow up on this (for those who aren't already aware) in the new collective bargaining agreement teams are permitted two "compliance" buyouts during the 2013 and/or 2014 offseasons.
Teams were allowed to use one of those compliance buyouts prior to the start of this season but the player's full salary for the 2012-13 season will count against the team's cap.
So Redden is picked up by St. Louis and GoHomez is in San Jose, and Wade will play in his 1000th game tonight.
