Arthritis Help Needed
Not sure this belongs in this forum, or in the (Club-Making).
I just took my clubs out, to get ready for a Vacation in Florida.
Over the winter I have developed Arthritis in my Hands.
So when I grip my clubs, It HURTS like hell.
I've been looking into it and have found some common Aids.
*Grips- increase the size & get a softer Material.
*Shafts- time to move to Graphite.
*Ball- lower compression
*Medicate- before & during the Round.
Been shopping a little but this is where I need your Help.
Both My Index Fingers are the worst.
So My overlap grip will need to change, "suggestions".
Shafts my Driver & 3 are Graphite "S", they will just need a Grip Change(?).
My Irons have steel " KBS Stiff, 1.3 Torque, .355 & .600, 120gr., Mid Trajectory.
"Recommendations" Club sets, shaft Specs, Grips that Work.
I haven't played Hybrids yet "Would it Help"?
Anyone out there that has gone through this problem?
Your Advice & Experience would be Extremely Valued.

On the medication side, try a product called Nuti-flex for arthritis. Really works for me. Any good health food store should stock it.

you may find your condition improve once you get to the warmer weather

I have been fighting arthritis for years, it has been mainly in my left hand.
I have had success with using a glove that has been designed to help with arthritis. Specifically I have been using a Bionic StableGrip glove combined with soft mid-sized grips and playing a softer compression ball. I still play with steel shafts.

Never suffered from it but can offer a few tips.
A great grip is the dri-tac midsize.

You could try it before switching all your shafts to Graphite.
As far as your overlap grip you could try a 10 finger grip or you could also try a reverse overlap grip:
Attachment 55743
You could also have a clubmaker ram down iron corks down the shafts
and could also have sensicore inserts installed if you do not want to switch to graphite.
Good luck

TKX for the Input:
Nuti-Flex -I will give it a shot.
Warm Weather - I can only Hope.
Bionic Stable Grip -the Padding looks like it would help.
Will surely try Lower compression Ball.
Not sure about the 10 finger, but experimenting revealed- a Kind of a Pistol Grip with Both Index Fingers completely off the Grip. Left hand 3 fingers as Normal, Left Index instead of Overlapping & Uniiting just stays free. Right hand Index the same, setting the club at the top may be a problem. At least it lets me 3/4 swing in the basement.
Still Hurts but not as much.
I'm Hoping to stay with my steel shafts, just get a set of re-grips.
INSERTS-I will need to look into that.
How are you suppose to select a grip?
Those sample grips at GT don't have weight, so how do you make a good decision?

I went through the same thing your going through. I tried graphite shafts, inserts in my steel, special padded gloves, mid size grip, arthritic grip, and jumbo grip. My suggestion is to go to golf works and regrip only one iron with a couple grips you like and try them. In my case I didn't think the inserts did much. I don't normally wear a glove so the padded one didn't feel right. The arthritis grip wasn't for me. In the end i ended up extending my steel shafts 1/2 an inch (going to R shafts) and using tour wrap 2G jumbo grips on my irons, and the midsized grips on graphite shafted hybrids and woods. The reason for extending the irons was so I could grip down a little from the button cap so my hands were more on the soft less tapered part of the grip. I also found that the graphite shafts worked in my irons but prefered my steel (golf reasons not arthritis). If you are right handed would be happy to meet up at the range some time in April and you can try the padded glove, my clubs, and I think I still have some arthritic grips you could try. Andy

I was able to make 99% of my arthritis go away once I stopped eating wheat (I went from multiple pain killers per day to 0 per day for the last year). You can google it to find many people who have had success with that.

I'm Back & look no snow. Sure Glad I missed the Melt & floods.
Major TKX for all your inputs.
The Ladds at Golfworks fixed me up with Midsize CP2 Grips complete with Sensicores for all my clubs.
The Bionic Glove is a lifesaver on toe mis-hits. Yes it Hurts but nowhere near what it would have.
Meds / painkillers are over the counter for now.
Florida for almost 30 days, I think 28 of them were golfing.
I did notice that the few days I didn't golf my next round was much better.
You want to talk about concentration " hit the sweet spot or your going to regret it" motivation.
Like Arnold always said " The More I Practice the LUCKIER I GET".
I had a great time & just wanted to "Thank You All For Your Advice".
See You Out There Soon.
