I was told today that it is next to impossible to pull a Titleist shaft without ruining the shaft, is this true? It is something to do with the amount of heat that needs to be applied to the head to get the shaft out.

What kind of Tileist? They require more patience but if you have the right tools it can be done.
I want to swap the shaft in my 975J with the shaft in my 983K
Shouldn't be any problem. Who told you that?
Maybe he's thinking about the T and S drivers that have that ring in the hosel.

I've heard the same, but wonder if that is not what Bobby was referring to.
I called Golftown and they said it was not possible and nobody should be doing it. They said that even to try it would be $70 just in labor. I am really low on cash these days and was hoping they would do it for free (since I spent thousands there in the las year or so). Well I guess I can try can anybody give me a few tips?
Bobby, its not impossible. Just ask one of the club guys here and they should be able to do it for you with no issues. Not sure what GT is talking about. I actually had downhillslider replace a shaft in a K earlier this year with no problems.
They are alot harder to do,thats for sure. But i dont think impossable?
I havent done a Titleist,but have done a few bore-thru's,just requires a little patience.
If anyone can do it here, its Andre or Chris.
Okay question. The Titleists driver have the head then a metal sleeve and the a ferrular. Now if the metal sleeve on both the drivers is the same do I need to remove it as well or can I jusr leave them on their respected shafts? I other words is the metal sleeve attached to the club head? Thanks.
Metal sleeve was only introduced on the newer T and S models. Your K and J shouldn't have one, as far as I know anyways.
Geoff is correct. 905T is the one with the aluminum sleeve. Yours is basically a straight forward pull and reshaft. All you got to replace is the ferrule.
I've had a 983K and a 905T reshafted w/ the original shaft surviving ...
I've pulled several 905S, T, and even the new R shafts with relative ease and been able to reuse the shafts. You just need to have the right equipment, a shaft extractor and vise really help. I drill out the small plug in the bottom and then use a blow torch to heat the drill bit and slide that into the bottom of the shaft while using a heat gun on the hosel, about two minutes of low heat and the head slides right off.
