From what I have heard of the coup, the armed forces have the backing of the King, and he is not only loved in Thailand, he is revered. Given the backing of the monarchy for the coup I would be surprised if there is any violence. If the military does put in a caretaker Prime Minister that is acceptable to a large minority, or a majority, of the Thai people then I think the rest will just get on with life. Only time will tell of course and I will be watching the news closely.
I'm in the same boat. My wife and I are scheduled to fly to Bangkok on December 19. The trip includes a week of golf in Hua Hin. Let's cross our fingers..
