Just heard that about 1/2 of Perth golf Course is being sold to a developer. If true, this would be a total shame to destroy a wonderful historic golf course. Hopefully whoever told me did not get his info from a reliable source.

That would indeed be horrible news.
Wow, certainly hope not.
I also heard that last fall---hope it is just a rumor !!!
course has been for sale for a while
did a google search
"The Perth Golf Club, formally the Links O’Tay Golf & Country Club, located in Perth, Ontario is the oldest golf course in Canada to remain in continuous play on the same site."
wow
The word on the street is that the back nine is turning into a housing subdivision, and that a new back nine will eventually be built.
Not sure where this new back nine would be built, given the layout of the existing course. The only possible location would be south of the existing clubhouse - which would beg the question of why not just build the housing subdivision there? Seems a shame - I always enjoyed playing that course.
Let's lobby the government to declare the Front Nine a Heritage site---they can't do any worse :-)
In related news, Timber Run in Lanark has also been sold
A golfing buddy said there were planning documents so I looked around and it seems to be a done deal. Work starting this summer maybe on infrastructure, but as for losing the back 9 except for #10, and looks like losing #3 the short par 3, here's a link to a document. It's big, so don't download unless you are willing to wait. https://www.perth.ca/en/resources/IN...PLAN_Part1.pdf
Local source saying it doesn't look like anything will be happening until the 2023 season at the earliest.
CONFIRMED FROM A MOST RELIABLE SOURCE
According to a recent letter sent to members, the sale of Perth Golf Course was officially completed in January 2022. We want to stress the golf course (all 18 holes) will remain unchanged this season. It also reads that operations are to be overseen by current management team. So it appears 2022 season will be business as usual. There has been an Ownership change but management remains same. Eventual development is inevitable, as rumour has it.
