Best Ryder Cup ever. The Euros were one tough team this year! Poulter yesterday had the most intense reactions I have seen in years. This Ryder Cup was a truly amazing nail biter all the way to the end!
I don't think Furyk studied his putts long enough! :)
Sure he did. The croud certainly thought so :-)
Simply the best day of golf watching EVER. I can't fathom the pressure the players at the tail end of the line up must have been feeling.
Of course, if the USA had won... my opinion may have been different. :)
It was intense and great TV. Poulter is unreal at this thing. I feel for the US, lots of choke jobs. They had Tiger primed to make up for 0-3 and couldn't even use his match because of a few choke jobs.
JimFuryk ran out of "5-hour energy" I guess... It was brutal to see his routine...
^^^ LMAO ..... I was nervous just watching it - can't imagine how Kaymer must have felt over that putt. Be he drilled it .... I always route for the European team anyway so its a great day indeed ... looks good on the US !!!
noticed Johnny Miller didn't have the gonads to state the obvious
"CHOCKING DOGS !!"
great theatre till the press conference......
Pretty happy to see Europe pull it out for Seve. I would like to offer the fans who boo'd the entire week a piece of humble pie with a side of crow...
for me the turning point was Rose's amazing birdie putt on 17 to go a/s after Mickelson almost holed out. Rose then won on 18 in a match Phil seemed to have in the upper hand going to the 17th. Great comeback by the Euros, they're kinda like a Team Canada hockey team when it comes to having heart and playing with emotion.
I have never been an Olazabal fan but he won me over with his leadership this past weekend.
suck it Keegan
The Euros were actually down 10-4 at one point Saturday so the comeback was truly remarkable...
Jim Furyk clearly struggled but he really came across as a d i n k in the press conference afterwards.
He said "If you ask Sergio, he will admit that I outplayed him, but somehow he won"... blah blah blah... Jim, you choked, plain and simple!
Furyk and Stricker or Mahan and Fowler... I think Davis made mistakes with his picks and that cost him. The younger guys would have thrived under the rowdy conditions and could not have played worse! Bubba, Ricky, Hunter and the gang would have built off each others emotion and success.
Oh well, I am a Euro, so I am quite happy with the result.
And if the Americans were able to go 10-4 to start, why is it surprising that the Euros could do 10-4 to finish? Or 10.5-3.5...
I know it doesn't happen often, but clearly it is now more possible ...
I don't buy the whole captains pick thing...it is what it is. There is no possible way to know how Fowler and Mahan would have played. It wasn't the captains picks that cost them the match it was the choice of sitting their best team on Saturday afternoon - even if Phil asked to sit. They are your best pair and they fueled all the of the teams that played for the US Side. The other mistake was putting all their "big guns" out first. They should have known that the EUROS were going to put their best players out first. Let them play the guys that are struggling and have your best go up against their struggling players. I was cheering for the US the whole week...it sucked to see them lose, but that's sports and it made for an amazing Sunday.
Wow, what a brutal thing for Furyk to say. Up until this weekend I kinda liked him but that ended yesterday. His pace of play made Ben Crane look like Speedy Gonzalez.
If he's going to take 10 minutes over every putt, try dropping one.
Kudos to Garcia for not loosing it on the guy. :thumbsup
Furyk is right, he did play better than Sergio tee-to-green. Sergio scrambled and putted better than Furyk. Let's face it, neither of them is the guy you want as your designated putter in a clutch situation. Furyk has had a tough few months after coughing up both a US Open, and a WGC event. This was probably frustration boiling over.
That being said, it was the perfect ending for a Ryder Cup, and it finally evens the score for Brookline. I can't wait for Gleneagles in 2014. :-)
@ Lobwedge...
Why is Furyk right? Sergio scrambled and putted better according to you, and if I am not mistaken, that is part of the game???
You say Furyk was better tee to green, which is also part of the game.
Garcia won more holes, so I don't know how anyone can say Furyk was better.
In Furyk's defence, and this is coming from a non-Furyk fan, the question he was responding to was... insensitive to say the least. I'm paraphrasing here but it was something like "You choked at the U.S. Open... then at the Bridgestone and now here. How does it make you feel to know you let your teammates down?". That wasn't the exact wording, but I'm pretty sure it's how Furyk likely heard it.
yup, they asked him how losing @ Bridgestone compared to losing Ryder cup. lol. Furyk was rattled by the question and started rambling... he told the reporter he probably never played a team sport to ask such a question and that losing Ryder cup was lowest point of his season......
...thus far! __________________ <---- (cleverly added by me :) )
Classic American ego...
"It's a little bit shocking. We were playing so well. Everybody on our team was playing so well, we just figured it didn't matter how (in what order) we sent them out there (on Sunday)."
Thanks Davis !!!
Seems to me that Davis was catering to the TV coverage and forgot about the matchups.Tiger going last, the way he was playing did not make sense. The older players if you look at their records over the years is just a mystery. But in the end it was just one group from Orlando beating another group from Orlando.
Furyk needs a major lesson from Stockton on unconscious putting. Fluff the caddy is one of the best readers of the green.
Best weekend of golf ever , from both sides .
Sundays singles were epic , the best golf i ever watched .
