Interesting driver spin results
OK, so at the beginning of the season I reshafted my two drivers to experiment on the effect of a softer tipped shaft.
The two heads in question are Wishon 919s, one at 9.5* and the other at 11*. Both were hand picked so the lofts are accurate. The shaft in question is the Aldila NVS-75s.
Comparing the two drivers at the range it was impossible to tell which driver was better since they both seemed to get the same total distance although the 11* definitely flew higher. Important to note here that these tests were, of course, done using range balls.
On course testing started with the 9.5* driver. The results were fantastic. Super long for me and good mix of carry and roll. I played a couple of rounds with this driver and a premium, spinny ball, the Maxfli Revolution Tour.
I put the 11* into play yesterday and talk about different results. The extra spin from the Rev Tour was costing me at least 20 yards on most shots compared to the 9.5* driver. Those of you who have played with me know I normally hit a low, boring driver. Not with this club. I was hitting super spinny ballooning drives all day and getting absolutely no roll out. Ugh.
So, what's the moral of the story? Don't trust any driver evaluations based strictly on range balls!
