Technically yes, but there's nothing preventing us from just playing the whole event straight up.
This will put some pressure on the captains to make pairings that will have at least one supposedly good golfer.

Handicaps are tough with teams you don't know, don't ask.
That's why I recomended a qualifier. That levels the playing field. Put forth your best team, and let the best team win, without strokes.. like the intersectionals.
Or you could all just play and have fun, which is obviously cool too :thumbsup
Funny--I was thinking exactly the same thing last night--this way no one is left out of the event and for the guys that are organizing it might take a little pressure off> From reading all these replies there sure seems to be a lot of interest. If the purpose to do this was for comradship rather than pure bragging rights etc; then the results from our forum day should be proof enough................BUT if this idea takes hold we cant expect one or two individuals to do all the work; ( I am just saying what Geoff is thinking :) ) I for one would be more than happy to help---any further comments?
Hey look--I got my quote button to work! :-)
No pressure at all is there Geoff. But I will give you another idea that might keep the masses happy! :-)
You could have one day of a 36 hole Ryder Cup style event for 12 folks per forum and you could have a Meet and Greet Ontario Golf Forum tournament on the other day..... that way everyone is happy (including whichever course gets the business):thumbsup Also, that way you could divy up the responsibilities, you could take care of the 36 hole Rider Cup and some other poor schmuck(s) could take care of the meet and greet your fellow website Ontario Golf Fanatics
Just a random thought, no pressure :-)
Just because I am CPGA, does not mean I am scratch. I would say I am a 2 handicap at the end of this season.
[quote=big mac;136357] Anyway if the London area people are in any way like us I say " lets go for it". This forum is just great for meeting good people.
They are, big mac, they are!!!:-) :-) :thumbsup
so what are the teams for the ottawa area??? just to see.. any ideas yet Geoff??
Ladies and gentlemen, a little update. TGN captain racmbs can no longer take the reigns of the TGN team. So the word is out for a new captain. Hopefully one will be decided on the next day or two and we'll really get down to business. Stay tuned for more info. :thumbsup
OH NO!--has TGN already started with the excuses? :-)
No, racmbs has legitimate reason. He's got a full plate of personal stuff going on. Too bad, he's a good guy, would've been fun to organize this with him.
Geoff, any ballpark on the date? I'd go through the bizillion posts in this thread, but I don't have nine hours to kill!!!
Nothing yet Donny. Still figuring out how the teams will be made up. :scratchch
Great example is forum member DaveyC .. he's a higher handicap, but does really well in competition, at our club his worst finish in match play ladders (singles and doubles) has been 2nd place.Quote:
I see what your saying but remember this is a COMPETITION not just playing with friends. Some people have a great handicap but when pressure comes they fold...
It's all about how you can od on a moment's notice, and a single event qualifier represents a single day competition very well IMO. People that are less likely to choke are more likely to do well in a qualifier.
Still not sure if we are going to have a qualifier Nat. I might just end up picking my team. But to make this event unique and not have it seem like a rip off of other established events myself and the other captains have been in discussions over rules and formats.
Here's the latest:
Three forums of twelve players put into two man teams. So we end up with 18 teams. Seeing how its most likely going to be a 36 hole event, thinking of making divisions of 3 teams (one from each forum) and playing a round robin. Winner of the division takes the points which goes towards the final tally to determine the winner.
As well, to try to even out the field seeing how I've been approached to allow a wider range of handicaps in the event (as opposed to the low cap event I originally wanted), two man teams cannot have a higher combined cap of 18.
But there is going to be a % of caps used depending on what format is being played at that time.
50% of each player's cap will be used in best ball or scramble format.
75% of each player's cap will be used in alternate shot style formats.
That's the latest so far.
Geoff, any idea what month you are going to do this thing in? I would like to try and put together another forum fun golf day or maybe even a tournament and I definitely don't want to go up against that event! :-)
Sometime near the end of May or into June.
