Atlanta to Pinehurst
Folks, need some recommendations. Headed to Pinehurst for a Monday to Wednesday package but flying into Atlanta for a commitment Friday am. Will hit the road Friday early afternoon. Options are to drive all the way to Pinehurst Friday pm (5-6 hours) and play in the local area over the weekend (Mid Pines?) or, play our way there. Any recommendations? Would like to play once Sat and once Sun so up for any combinations of diving and playing along the way.
Any thoughts?

My two cents, get to Pinehurst and play some combination of Mid Pines, Pine Needles, Tobacco Road, and Dormie (if you can get on).
You're not likely to find anything better on the way.
If you want to take a detour you could spend a night or two at Kiawah in which case you could head there from ATL, play Sat and Sunday, and then head to Pinehurst on Sunday night. Extra driving but if you want to play the Ocean Course it's worth the extra driving.

Where would you stay? Mid Pines Inn, Pine Needles Lodge or a local hotel? How would you rank the various courses? It looks like Mid Pines is sold out for the weekend.

It's been a few years but I'd say Mid Pines / Pine Needles are equivalent.
If you've never played it before Tobacco Road is a must play. Some people hate it, but I think it's a blast.
Dormie Club is a Coore/Crenshaw design and is very good.
If you aren't on a package at Mid Pines or Pine Needles staying anywhere is fine. I'm not sure what the AirBnB situation is like down there.
