Forum: Instruction

This is the place to ask questions on the mechanics of the swing etc.

  1. Why does my ball slice?

What makes my ball slice? I'm so scared to use my 3 wood when I go golfing because its usually a pretty bad slice. (70-100 yards right of centre) and its usually in a tree or water... whatever may be the case. Its not so bad at the range but its out of control at the course. What should I do?

  2. Putting

My putting is pretty good considering the short time I've been playing. I do three putt from time to time but its rare. They are mostly two putts as rare as a three putt... the one putt. Is there a rule of thumb when putting against the grain of the green? Uphill? reading breaks? I remember...

  3. Inside aproach?

I found out that I slice the ball because I come to much from the outside and not the inside. What is the best way to fix this? The guy I booked my lessons with has gone on vacation and need to fix this asap. Has anyone tried that "inside Aproach" golf foam thing? Do you think that will work? ...

  4. How do you get your spin rate down???

I found something interesting on the net. They were talking about how the guys on tour have gained so much yardage over the past few years and how its has to do with new equipment, balls, swing mechanics and other things and I came across these numbers. The first thing I noticed different about my...

  5. What golf books to get?

This isn't really a direct question about mechanics but more of an indirect one, what books did you read about golf that you think really improved your game? What books have you been told about by other people and saw improvments in their game? Looking to get my first golf book (second...

  6. Why is my divot before the ball???

I used to try to sweep the ball off the ground with my club and would always hit the ground first and then the club would either take a chunk of grass out and then hit the ball or it would hit the grass, bounce back up and hit the ball in its equator. I've watched the pros hit the ball in slow...

I've been trying to figure it out for myself but google is not my friend. Searched the site as well and can't find anything. Any recommendations for my driver setup, I trend to hit my drive on the way up (I have been told) so I only get on average 220-230 (straight) it’s a regular flex with 10 degree. 29. Tip for the day.

If you struggle with your accuracy and where your hitting the ball on the clubface try taking a bit slower backswing then while keeping your left arm straight, when you get ot the top of your backswing (which should be a lot more on plane than before) Fire your body like you would on a normal shot....

Well, I need to get back to the tip of the day. If most of your shots fly low, you may have a posture problem. If you tend to bend to much from your waist or flex your knees too much, you will have a flat swing plane. Try to stand more erect with a straight back and a slight bend from your...

If the landing area off of the tee has an area that severely slopes one way or the other, think in terms of avoiding it altogether in order to have a level lie. You should look at your options of flying it over this area, laying up short of it, or landing left or right of the slope. Do not...

  32. Tip for the day, from Joel.

When you come to a hole that is very narrow off the tee, the natural tendency is to try and aim the ball and guide it with the club. This tendency will cause you to restrict your muscles and more than likely hit pushed or pulled shots that wind up in trouble. The best approach is to feel a sense...

  33. Tip for the day, from Joel.

Avoid playing with a ball that has been scraped on a cartpath or has little nicks in the cover. The flight of the ball can be changed by these flaws. If you go to an old ball to hit across a water hazard, you are defeating yourself by thinking that you will hit it into the water. Give yourself...

Most poor bunker shots are caused by fear. The average golfer thikns in terms of skulling the ball or leaving it in the bunker. The remedy for this is to hit your sand shots without any fear. Use an agressive stroke that cuts through the sand blasting the ball out. The best way to eliminate...

  37. Tip for the day, from Joel.

One key move to hitting longer and straighter drives is to hit the ball with a flat left wrist. At the moment of impact the back of your left hand should face parallel to your target line.
