Forum: Rules Of Golf

Ya gotta know the rules

  1. Destroyed the hole

Gary, Playing a match, A's ball carries into the hole and severely damages the hole, so that it cannot be easily repaired. There is no official in the group. B has a putt for a half, and the hole is significantly larger than regulation on his line. What are the options? spidey

I have noticed there are a few members on here that have completed the different levels in the RCGA Rules Education. I am interested in obtaining these levels, and I have a couple of questions: 1- Is it logical to say that you can obtain a level a year? I am not sure what the opportunity is...

  4. Tee Markers

I was golfing at Chateau Cartier yesterday with two buddies of mine. One of my friends was teeing off of the par 3 number 6 from the white markers and his tee shot, a worm burner, hit the red tee marker and went back right into the water. He said he could hit again with no penalty because the...

  5. Designated Drop Zones

No rules officials please, at least until we have a couple of answers. Thanks. :) A course has a number of "drop zones" set up on specific holes, for relief from shots that are known or virtually certain to have entered the water hazards on those holes. The scorecard mentions these drop zones...

Been having issues with the driver (what else is new...) and was playing the other day using the pump drill as part of my actual swing. I.e. make a backswing, pump down and back up a couple times and then actually hit the ball say on the third "pump" down. Is this legal in actual play? Apart...

Late in yesterday's golf telecast, there was a great example of KVC, "known or virtually certain." Robert Allenby was significantly PO'd on the ruling he got late in the 4th round. Hoolio and I had this discussion driving up to play Renfrew on the weekend: Lets' say that there is a metal stake marking an out of bounds line next to a body of water. The metal stake is bent halfway up, facing back towards the fairway. You hit your drive, and it hits the section of the...

OK I know you can't hit a provisional if you hit into a hazzard, but a slight twist occurred yesterday, while playing a course I did not know. I saw my drive clearly go into an area of heavy bush. Fearing it was lost I hit a provisional. When I got to where my first ball went, I discovered...

Mississippi Golf Club, number 4, is a par 3 with a bunker at the back of the green. Mike hits his tee shot and the ball buries under the lip of the very back part of the circular bunker. Thinking he can play a shot sideways, he makes a stroke at the ball, but instead, drives the ball even further...

This came up recently, I have read the rules and I find it difficult what constitutes "testing" the conditions of a hazard. Intermediate/Advanced difficulty. Many know that if a golfer is unsure of a ruling in STROKE play, that he may - (1) play two balls, (2) declare with which ball he wants to score, if the rules allow, and (3) that he wants a ruling. In MATCH play, though, playing two balls is not permitted. In...
