I just purchase a set of graphite shafted irons and the length is 1/2 inch longer than my steel shafted irons. If I shorten the graphite shafts a half inch, will this screw things up like flex, lie, etc?

Has anyone got any good ideas how to easily mask woods prior to painting. Using masking tape with the big curves and subtle angles is a pain. I have heard of everything from plastic paint to plaster of paris to cover the areas that dont want paint. Any ideas.
